'Semperflorens' is a strong-growing tree growing 6 - 10 m tall. The crown is oval to narrow fan-shaped and semi-open. The bark is grey and later loosens in thin sheets. Salix triandra is easily recognised by its orange lower bark. The twigs are shiny green-brown and bare. When damaged, they smell slightly like almonds. This has earned the tree the Dutch name Amandel willow. The leaves are lanceolate, 5-12 cm long and 1-3 cm wide, and have a rounded leaf base. They are a glossy dark green and are glabrous on both sides.
'Semperflorens' is a male cultivar and the flower catkins are 4-8 cm long and pale yellow in colour. The insignificant individual flowers always possess three stamens (triandra means with three stamens). The first flower catkins appear just before the leaves emerge and the tree then flowers throughout the summer.
Salix triandra occurs naturally along river banks and in pilot whales, including in the Netherlands. The species prefers nutrient-rich soil and can grow on very wet soils. This is therefore also the case with 'Semperflorens', which is suitable for bank planting and in wadis. Hardiness zone 4.
