Triomphe de Vienne' is a moderately strong-growing pear tree with a broad pyramidal, semi-open crown of 4-7 m in height. The stem branches grow up rather steeply, but the branching is fairly wide and the branches hang over slightly, especially during fruiting. The tree flowers with white blossoms around the beginning of May. Triomphe de Vienne' is not self-pollinating, which means that a tree of another pear variety should be nearby for good fruiting. Preferably, 'Beurré Hardy', 'Charneux', 'Doyenné du Comice' or 'Williams' are used for this purpose. The pears of 'Triomphe de Vienne' are large to very large, sometimes up to 500 grams each. The skin is green and bronze mottled. The white-yellow flesh is soft, juicy and pleasantly sweet to taste. The pears are ready for picking in the first half of September. It is a typical hand pear, with a short shelf life and therefore mainly suitable for direct consumption.
'Triomphe de Vienne' was selected as a chance seedling in 1864 by the French grower M. Jean Colland, Nontagnon, and was marketed 10 years later by C. Blanchet, Vienne, France. Hardiness zone 5b.
