One of the more familiar and better cultivars of the large and shape-abundant group of Japanese maples. At first a solid shrub, when maturing growing into a small, multi-stemmed tree. Eventually it will become as wide as it is high. Slow growing. The leaf is palmately lobed and has seven, long pointed lobes. In spring it unfurls with an olive-brown colour, in summer it is dark green. In summer juvenile foliage is a striking orange. In autumn all the leaves get spectacular red and orange hues. 'Osakazuki' is one of the best cultivars with regard to autumn colours. The winged nutlets (samaras) are red too. A partially shaded site is best, but a sunny location will also be tolerated. The plant can be applied in gardens, parks and as a solitary.

Správny čas na výsadbu stromu je mimo vegetačné obdobie. V strednej Európe môže byť Acer palmatum 'Ôsakazuki' so zemným balom vysadený od polovice novembra do konca apríla, avšak závisí to veľmi od klimatických podmienok a druhu stromu.
